WOYWW 172 - Zentangle

It's What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday!  Woo hoo.  It all starts at Julia's at Stamping Ground.   I must thank Julia for getting us all together.  I was fortunate to meet my first fellow WOYWW -- Di from Pixies Crafty Workshop.  I'm hoping to meet more of you as time goes on.

I took a Zentangle class from Suzanne McNeill.  The only experience I've had with zentangles is admiring the work of fellow WOYWW Neesie over at Neesie Natters.  I was lucky enough to win a set of her beautiful cards.  She does amazing work and is such a sweetheart.

We were given a pencil outline of a girl with a head wrap.  We then loosely followed the outline with a Micron .01 pen.  After that Suzanne showed us a zentangle and then let us choose where we wanted to put it.  We colored in the zentangle using a 1 Micron pen.  She also showed us how to add watercolor to our image.  I decided not to do that since I had lots of zentangling left to do.   I've been working on this the last two nights.
I've always wanted to be a hippy girl

Unfortunately there were some things that I didn't learn in class - scale being one of them.  Also, I think it would probably have been easier to work in "squares" when learning rather than all these crazy shapes we were given.   Having said that, I did enjoy the class and am excited to keep going.  I am really looking forward to combining the zentangle method with my doodling.

The example supplied by Suzanne
I will try to visit those that leave a comment (please leave your number) and those that end in the same number as me.   I hope you are enjoying the week.  I know Wednesdays are one of my favorite days!

Peace,
Kay

I'm sorry, I know I need to play catch up with you on your posts, been so busy with the opening of the store, I am a bad friend indeed! I do however love the zentangling you are doing and it sounds like a fun class, I can't wait to see yours all finished! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

That's gorgeous and you have put so much work into it. My eyes get really blurry when I tangle, so haven't played with it for a while. Yours is great and you're so lucky to be going to classes, plus meet another WOYWWer. You've had quite a week. Can't wait to see the tangle finished.
Have a great week.

I think you did very well. I like zentanhles but putting them in a project that is also coloured (as per the example you've shown) is surprisingly effective. Something to think about. Happy WOYWW Cindy x #77 (but that will probably change!)

WOW! Love the zentangle project! I bought a book to try and learn how to do it but have been so busy the book sets on the shelf. Maybe when it gets cold and I don't go out much I will have the opportunity to give it a try! Vickie #73

There is nothing like doing a proper class, is there - so much more hands on than trying to follow a Youtube tutorial! You have way more patience than me to do Zentangling..I tried it and nearly drove myself mad!! I thought I would have loved the process but it's so not for me. You still find out things about yourself, don't you?? I've discovered I'm an impatient, slightly OCD neat freak at the grand old age of 51!!!!

That is very impressive for a firdt time. I met Suzanne when I weny to CHA last year and was lucky enough for her to draw a little tangle in my travel journal. I remember how surprised I was at how quickly she actually does it.

Good job on doing the Zentangle, Kay! I love looking at them, but am afraid to try it myself because I have a feeling I would become hopelessly addicted and never get back to my cards. (I loved making doodled, filled-in, patterns as a kid.) I so admire you guys who can hop back and forth between crafts, but I'm sort of a one-thing-at-a-time person. With my unbelievable good looks, I try not to be too disappointed that the brain is a bit limited! Have a wonderful week! Darnell #132

You've made a fantastic start on your lady. Zentangles really facinate me. I've only just discovered that are actual patterns. I used to think they were just free doodling within a space. i wouldn't be able to see with such a fine pen right now, but i shall have to have a go one day. I'm just a little afraid I might get addicted! Kate x

Fabulous Kay! I do hope you continue and also show the end result - told you, you'll have an art shop on The Plaza someday.

Been out and about a bit today so need to catch up with commenting tomorrow - Autumn seems to be on the way here. Ha, I just spied the hedgehog having a night time drinkies and wander round the garden - no time to run and take a photos though. They're very shy and run away at the least disturbance :(

Take care my friend, love and hugs. Di xxxi

Wow you Zentangle is turning out gorgeous. I think that would drive me batty...you must have lots of patience-but the finished project will be gorgeous!

I admire your patience...I don't think I could do Zentangle designs. Thanks for stopping by, I peeped about your other posts and some great inspiration. I am hoping Oct will settle down and I have more time to visit and create. Have a wonderful weekend. Definite fall weather has arrived and I am loving it.

Hey Kay - I am so impressed by what you have done/are doing. Love looking at these Z's but doing them, I have not a clue. I guess the way you did it (section at a time marked up) is the way forward. I might try now - inspired by you. Thanks so much for sharing.

Wow Kay . . . your Zentangle is amazing. I recently got into Tangling and there's lots of info on the internet. I have some great links on my blog too - scroll down my sidebar a bit. There are even challenges you can enter.

Being in the UK there are no classes I can take . . . but I now have a book to browse on Tangling.

It's very addictive isn't it?

I laugh that there is a zentangle class! I mean I get why, but ultimately isn't it just doodling?! It is coming together well.
