More Thrift Store Finds and an upcoming class (I'm taking)

I'm sure my blog is feeling neglected.  This is the first time I've turned on my computer all weekend!  I went to the thrift store yesterday and have some new finds to share.  I have really enjoyed going and can't wait for garage sales to start!
I just love these little hankies.  I'm not sure what I'll do with them - any ideas?
I'm signed up for the e-course The Art of Wild Abandoment Workshop that is co-taught by Junelle Jacobson from Yes and Amen and Christy Tomlinson.  Her website is here.

When I saw this journal I knew I'd use it for this class.  The pages are perfect and waiting for creativity.
I'll use the jouranl for the class.
The box, well, I have plans for it too.  I saw Neil altering a box and decided that I'd give it a try.  Check out Neil's project here.   I've seen the wooden boxes for sale at Hobby Lobby and thought I'd try it one day, but when I saw this gem at the thrift store (for $1) I decided to buy it.

I also found this cute little cup.  I was drawn to the colors.  Of course, if you saw my house you'd wonder what colors I WASN'T drawn to!!!

I hope you have a great day.  Wherever you are and whatever you do, don't forget to take time to breathe!

Hi Kay

Wow, a few good finds here chick! I expect others could well have better ideas but the hankies could be cut up and used to make little lavender or pot pourri sachets to put in underwear drawers. You could work around the embroidery to make the most of it. I have a pattern from years ago (somewhere, but I can still remember how to do it and can explain better) which is to cut two eliptical shapes, which eventually end up as a really pretty heart shaped sachet rather than just square.

Or, you could just tuck one into your sleeve - as a standby :)

Hi Kay, Thanks for dropping by my blog and leaving a lovely comment and your question. We used a baguette, a long stick of French bread cut into thick slices with little chunks of chocolate

Oh the hankies are just beautiful! I have a few from my Grandmother and have been wanting to make a shadowbox with them and a several other things I have from her. A few stick pins, train ticket stubs, pics, etc..... I keep them all in a box together and just have not taken the time to do it...
You did good on your junk finds...!
Thanks for the encouraging words you left on my site too!!

Hi Di,

The sachets sound like a great idea. I've also seen where they were sewn together to make a table runner.

Oh how I love thrifting! Looks like you found all sorts of goodies! Can not wait until garage sale season starts. Although with this crazy warm weather it seems like it could almost be time for garage sales! lol

I love all of your work and each and every one of your 'finds'!
If you sew, the hankies can be made into small outfits for small dolls. Or even collars for dolls or what ever you create.
I enjoy and thank you for your visits at my blog!

I think you're drawn to hot vibrant colours because you live in a hot vibrant place!! While I love the odd splash of 'vivid', I do lean towards muted colours more. And I'm so not a muted person in other parts of my life, ask Julia!! I always feel sorry for vintage embroidered stuff in charity shops, so well done for rescuing those hankies :D

Kay sweet friend, thanks so much for stopping by my creative blog today - it's a fun little challenge to take my mind a bit off the cats. It's been a tough January and we're not entirely through with the repercussions from the virus, so yes... a bit of creative outlet helps!!
Thanks also for your little mail - your weekend sounded just perfect! I love your thrift store finds - oh those hankies!! I miss thrift stores as you don't get them in Greece (it's a peculiar pride thing). I just adore rummaging around thrift stores - just think of all the little hidden gems. It's truly amazing what you can find sometimes. I look forward to see what projects you will make from your lovely finds.

P.s. Do you actually have any dogs??

505whimsygirl said...

Hi Joan,
Yes, I have two rescue dogs. One is a full bred poodle and the other one they say is a sheppard mix of some sort. She walks - rather trots - like a fox! Daisy (poodle) is 12 and Katie is 8. I also have a yellow sided green cheek conure, Tulip.

I'm not sure what I will do with the hankies. I saw a table runner made out of hankies and may make something like that. I love thrift stores - too bad you don't have one nearby.

Hugs,
Kay

Hi Kay, lots of lovely finds - I'd be drawn to that cup too, super colours. Read your comment about my heart flower tutorial, thanks so much, and thought we'd try to clear up what the glue gel might be called in the States. I wonder if it is called silicone gel? As you can see it is a clear thick glue that dries solid ... and because it is thick, doesn't slip-slide all over the place, it is easy to get dimension with it. One of its uses is for building up the layers on decoupage. Hopefully, if that hasn't helped, someone out there reading this might just know. Elizabeth x

Hi Kay - first of all thanks so much for all the comments you have been making on my blog - so much appreciated. Hope you enjoyed the journey in Anaheim. Also hope I can remember all the things I watched as my head is mashed at the moment and so is that of my friend. Think we are still tired.
Love your hankies, can only think of making lavender bags but maybe that is because I just did one at a Make & Take before we left. They are so pretty I would not rush into anything until you see something to inspire. Saw some beautiful work by Ruth Rae (think that was her name)and my friend has just sent for her book Layered, Tattered and Stitched for me. Hope it gets here before I leave. Have a look at it on Amazon, might inspire you. My Monday posting had some of her work on.
Look forward to your "wild abandonment".
Thanks for keeping popping in to see what I have been up to - Hugs & Thanks for sharing, Neet 151
