Thrift Store Find

I found this cool stand that I thought I could use at arts and crafts sales.  I took it apart and spray painted it school house red.  I love how it turned out.
Taken apart and ready for paint
I was lazy in that I just wiped it down - no sanding involved.  That's my kind of project - fast and simple!  I put tape around the brass piece so it wouldn't get painted.
I like that you can see that wooden pattern
How about you?  Do you enjoy going to thrift stores and/or yard sales?  It's so fun to see something and imagine what you could do with it.

I also bought a hard sided suitcase -- I haven't started that project but I can't wait to get started.

Peace,
Kay

Hi Kay, wow, what a transformation - I love the red - and that it's called school house red ... I wonder why?

I love mooching round thrift shops and charity shops, of which we have many! There are several in almost every High Street because, since the coming of the superstores, all situated on the outskirts of towns, lots of little shops have gone out of business and closed down leaving empty premises. Charities get a good deal on rates so they can move into the shops. I haven't got anything against the charity shops, but I mourn the passing of all the small traditional shops that used to make up a typical High Street.

Re you comment on the wall hanger for Sarah's baby, Ruby, I can tell you that she has it so I haven't spoiled the surprise :)

I know what you mean about locally owned shops - and them having to close. It's a real bummer to see that happen. We don't have many shops here in town (only one grocery store). I went to our locally owned bookstore a few weeks ago and was sad to see the shelves so empty. Our Hallmark store closed a few months back so the only place to buy cards is at the grocery store. That's so sad (and one reason I need to get back into cardmaking).

Hugs, Kay

I used to love yard sales and thrift stores! Well, I probably still would but I don't have any room for anything. I barely can squeeze myself in. That is a great stand and that you can still see the wood pattern makes it more special.

My problem is that I can't ever find what I'm looking for that fits in my head what I want to make! In other words, I get too side tracked looking at everything that I find nothing! Love what you did with the tiered stand, will this be used to display your jewelry? waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

Yep, I came to join WOYWW and Julia was MIA. Even her photos. So I came here to see what you were up to and fell in love with that revised cake stand. So much better looking with just a hint of texture. Love, love, love it. I also love to go thrift store shopping, but the prices have gone so high this last year, I can't even afford their things I can use for crafts.

That looks fabulous in red - well done. I just went thrifting on Monday, but I must admit to buying things that don't necessarily need redoing.
