Wildfire Close To Town

UPDATE:  People that had been evacuated are now allowed to return to their homes.  Also, NM4 (a two lane mountain road) is now open.  The fire is around 45% contained.  Smoke plumes are expected to be bad all week due to hot weather.  So thankful for all the firefighters - from quite a few different states.

Every year there are wildfires in New Mexico.  Two years ago this month I was evacuated due to a wildfire.  I was displaced from my home for over a week.

Right now there's a wildfire at Thompson Ridge.  It was started by a downed power line.  What I don't understand is that the fire two years ago was caused by the same thing.  You'd think the power company would be responsible for maintaining a clear path under the lines so this would be prevented.  I just don't get it.

The fire is known as the Thompson Ridge fire - the Ridge where it started.  Some people have been evacuated from their homes since last Saturday (and possibly last Friday).
A picture I took from Town
All of the pictures below I pulled from various sources.

Thanks to all the firefighters, both locally and from other states.  We appreciate all you are doing to protect homes and our beautiful land.

Peace,
Kay

Hi Kaye, we also have wild fires here, ours are mostly started from lightening. They never get to close to us, but the smoke drifts in with the wild, and is sometime hard to breathe. I agree that if yours is started from the power lines, then there is something they could do to prevent it happening again. Please take care of yourself . . . I am adding you to my prayers.

Oh, I hope you don't get evacuated. I'm totally with you on the power folks keeping the areas under the lines clean. They have to know this happens. Guess they are like everyone else, budget cuts. Please stay safe. Hugs & prayers too. TFS

Hope you are ok. I know how awful these fires can be (having had my friend lose her home) as I witnessed the devastation to a mobile home park a few years ago. Thankfully I have not been involved in one on my many visits.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and with all the poor people whose homes are in danger. As you so rightly say God Bless the Firefighters.
Love
Neet xx
