Friday Smiles

Hello peeps.  I'm joining in with Annie at A Stitch In Time.   I hope everyone has had a great and creative week.  I've finished one scarf and started another cowl using the linen stitch.  I love how they look.

Here's my funny for today.

Text To A Neighbor

"Joe, I'm sorry.
I've been riddled with guilt and I have to confess.  I have been helping myself to your wife when you're not around, probably more than you.  I know it's no excuse, but I don't get it at home.  I can't live with the guilt any longer and I hope you'll accept my sincerest apology.  It won't happen again."

Feeling outraged and betrayed, Joe gabs his gun, goes into the bedroom and without a word, shoots his wife.

Moments later he gets another text:  "Really should use spell check!  That should have said wifi."

How about you?  Do you use other people's wifi?  I have my own at home that is secured but have a limited time.  I might be able to visit others on Friday but it will more than likely be the weekend.

Peace,
Kay

WOYWW

Hello everyone!  Another happy WednesdayI'm joining in with Julia over at Stamping Ground.  People from places near and far show their desks and what they are working on.  Julia has a full explanation of WOYWW on her blog HERE.

I'm still working on my comfy chair.  I've been knitting more spa cloths, a scarf and another cowl.
I can't live without my iced tea!

As always, I will visit those that visit me (please leave your number) and those that end in the same number as me.

It probably won't be until Friday that I get around.

Peace,
Kay

Friday Smiles

Hello peeps.  I'm joining in with Annie at A Stitch In Time.  I hope everyone has had a wonderful week and will have an even better weekend!

Some of you know about my fifteen day Hawaii cruise, which turned out to be a cruise to Oahu and back (no Hilo, Kauai or Maui).  We departed from San Francisco and sailed across the Pacific Ocean.  Unfortunately our ship ran into problems just as we arrived in Hawaii.   There was a small fire in the engine room and one of our jet propulsion engines was damaged so we didn't have full speed.  You may have heard about it on the News.  I was on the Grand Princess the first part of December.

In Oahu we went to the Pearl Harbor Memorial.  We also went to the Punchbowl, the National Cemetery.  If you are interested check out my previous post.

Anyway, we didn't get to a beach and dip our toes into the Ocean.  Here's a photo I took on the ship.
I call this one hitting the waves.  What's really funny is I took this one before we had the engine problem.  Oh the irony of it all!

Peace,
Kay

WOYWW 349

Hello everyone!  Another happy WednesdayI'm joining in with Julia over at Stamping Ground.  People from places near and far show their desks and what they are working on.  Julia has a full explanation of WOYWW on her blog HERE.

My "desk" continues to be my comfy chair while I knit.

I haven't gotten rid of any of my rubber stamps.  Maybe I'm more sentimental than I thought!  I have been moving things around so I can actually see what I have and perhaps that will make me use it!   I had to quickly move things into the closet so my living room wouldn't be cluttered for company.  Now things are back out and you can see the progress I've made in organizing.  I'm happy with how things are coming along.
After looking at these photos I'm going to move all my gluing stuff into a basket and put it somewhere else.  That will free up a shelf for other things.

I took some of my knitting to the local yarn store for consignment.  I'm excited about this!   Below is her display of the cowl I knitted in my new favorite stitch, the linen stitch.  I also took in the purple scarf.

As always, I will visit those that visit me (please leave your number) and those that end in the same number as me.  It may be the weekend before I'm able to get around.

Peace,
Kay

Pearl Harbor and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific

Hello peeps.  As promised, here's a post about my visit to Pearl Harbor.  It was close to the Anniversary when we there.

The USS Arizona is the final resting place for many of the ship's 1,177 crewmen who lost their lives on December 7, 1941.  The 184-foot-long Memorial structure spans the mid-portion of the sunken battleship and consists of three main sections:  the entry room; the assembly room, a central area designed for ceremonies and general observation; and the shrine room, where the names of those killed on the Arizona are engraved on the marble wall.  Servicemen that have since passed and was on the USS Arizona have the option to be buried with their brothers in arms.  There are two areas with names of those that have since passed.  The wall with the names is approximately 50 feet wide and probably just as tall.  It gave me goosebumps to see the names of those that perished.

To learn more about the history and culture go HERE.

We also went to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as the Punchbowl.

The “Punchbowl” was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity.  A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs which, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range.

Although there are various translations of the Punchbowl’s Hawaiian name, “Puowaina,” the most common is “Hill of Sacrifice.” This translation closely relates to the history of the crater. The first known use was as an altar where Hawaiians offered human sacrifices to pagan gods and the killed violators of the many taboos. Later, during the reign of Kamehameha the Great, a battery of two cannons was mounted at the rim of the crater to salute distinguished arrivals and signify important occasions. Early in the 1880s, leasehold land on the slopes of the Punchbowl opened for settlement and in the 1930s, the crater was used as a rifle range for the Hawaii National Guard. Toward the end of World War II, tunnels were dug through the rim of the crater for the placement of shore batteries to guard Honolulu Harbor and the south edge of Pearl Harbor.

You really can see for formation and how it got it's name.

Here's another sunset for you.  Since we were on the ship fourteen of our fifteen day cruise I have lots of ocean photos - and photos taken on the ship.
Peace,
Kay

Friday Smiles

Hello peeps.  I'm joining in with Annie at A Stitch In Time.  I hope everyone has had a wonderful week and have an even better weekend planned!

Yep, this is what I'll be doing tonight!  Actually, most evenings after work I relax with my knitting.  I find it almost like meditation.  Yesterday morning it was only 9 degrees when I left my home for work.  To add to my "party" I'll have a roaring fire in my fireplace.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Peace,
Kay
